This 12 day cycling tour showcases the best of Vietnam: You will certainly get a great taste of the charming cities of Hanoi, Hue, Saigon and the beautiful Halong Bay, the Mekong delta, famous Hai Van Mountain pass, the tropical beaches of Hoi An and the hidden jungle valley of My Son.

Note: The itinerary can be done in reverse as well, for those starting in Sai Gon –  Mekong Delta and wanting to end in Ha Noi.

✦ Great bike: We use TREK bicycles, our bicycles are lightweight, multi-speeds with front-suspension and available in all sizes to accommodate everyone. A comfortable saddle with a women’s specific version is also available, so we make sure you have a safe and comfortable ride with us.
✦ Support Van: An air conditioned backup support mini bus is always available for supporting on way cycling. This vehicle also serves as our mode of transport when we are not on the bike.
✦ Note: The itinerary can be done in reverse as well, for those starting in Sai Gon – Mekong Delta and wanting to end in Hue.

The Tour

Itinerary:
DAY 1: ARRIVE HANOI
Upon arrival, our driver with private car will meet you at the airport and transfer to your desired hotel in Ha Noi. Remainder of the day is free to explore the capital city of Ha Noi. Overnight in Hanoi

DAY 2: HANOI – HALONG BAY
Have breakfast in hotel and join a tour group for Halong Bay. It’s a 4 hour drive to Halong Bay, where you will board a traditional style Junk Boat. The Junk Boat has a restaurant and sleeping accommodation. You will be greeted with a welcome drink and fresh seafood lunch as we then cruise in the magnificent Ha Long Bay. Limestone rock formations will be all around us for about 2 hours before our first stop. Our 1st stop is a remote and scenic opportunity to paddle with a kayak and explore the bay in depth. After a stop of 1 & 1/2 hours, we get back on board to refresh and start the aperitif on the sundeck. The boat cruises to its secluded anchorage area. Dinner is served either inside or outside depending on weather conditions. Overnight on board in a cozy air-conditioned cabin with en-suite bathroom facilities.

DAY 3: HALONG BAY – HANOI 
Coffee and tea will be served from 6.30am. Wake up smoothly while witnessing the silence of beautiful misty bay. A 30-minute Tai Chi session will be organized, energize your body and soul or just allow yourself some quality time to sunbath with a cup of coffee or tea. At about 7.45am, we hop on a tender to go visiting a cave in the mountains, surrounded by stalactites and stalagmites and return to the boat for around 9am.  A brunch is served soon. after returning. We then disembark around midday where a private bus will transfer back to Hanoi for around 4pm.

DAY 4: HANOI – HUE 
Have breakfast at the hotel and transfer by private car to Noi Bai airport for a flight to Hue city. Upon arrival Hue, your guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in Hue. After checking and setting up the bicycles, the rest of the morning is free to relax and enjoy at your leisure. Later in the day we will cycle out to the lovely classic styled tile-roofed bridge at Thanh Toan. The bridge was built over two centuries ago, the arched wooden bridge spans a canal that runs through the village and has long been an iconic and cultural landmark in the area. Late in the afternoon the old folk gather on the bridge to talk and socialise. After enjoying the tranquil location, we will cycle back to our hotel.

DAY 5: HUE
This morning we will enjoy the peaceful leafy backstreets of this charming city, cycling out to explore the countryside around Hué. We begin with a visit to the Ho Quyen amphitheatre, where the Emperor of Hue presided over duels between tigers and elephants. Continuing on to the 19th century Nguyen Tomb of Tu Duc, we will enjoy the beautiful complex of ornate temples, pavilions and tombs built beside a picturesque lake. After a visit to the incense making village, a gentle ascent of Vong Canh Hill rewards us with spectacular views. From the pine forest atop the hill we can look over the Perfume River and the surrounding countryside and tombs of the Nguyen dynasty. We return to Hué by boat on the Perfume River, visiting the iconic Thien Mu Pagoda, home to the oldest monastery in the city, whose 21m high tower has become something of a symbol for Hué.

Days 6: Hue- Da Nang (L)
8:00Am you will bet transferred out of the city to the countryside by private bus. Begin riding on the backcountry roads, passing through rural villages, rice paddy fields, rivers and forests. Lunch is at local restaurant with time to enjoy Lang Co beach. When ready, we saddle up and over Hai Van pass praised by BBC’s Top Gear as the most beautiful coastal mountain road in the world. Keep riding southwards along the coast to the hotel in Da Nang. Overnight in Da Nang.

Day 7: Da Nang – Hoi An (B, L)
Morning (8:00) visit the Da Nang history museum in the city, cycling out of Da Nang city to Marble Mountain, to discover many natural caves in which Buddhist sanctuaries have been built over the centuries. The Marble Mountains surrounding the area are five stone hillocks – the islands are made of marble – and each is said to represent one of the five elements of the universe. Continue the ride to Hoi An ancient city. Have lunch at a local family in Hoi An. In the afternoon, we bike to the close by countryside, visit Cam Thanh fishing village and take a boat ride to see wetlands and palm forests of the area. Overnight we will stay in Hoi An.

Day 8: Hoi An – My Son (B, L)
8:00 riding on the back streets, passing the colourful markets of Hoi An to the Thu Bon river, we will load all the bicycles on a ferry boat and transfer to Cam Kim. Admiring iconic landscape of Hoi An and see the riverbanks dotted with green islands… After disembarking with our bicycles, we visit the carpentry village to discover how wooden river boats are made, then cycle along the quiet paths to My Son.  Your guide will take you into the sanctuaries, giving you the opportunity to walk and discover the old temples with its unique architecture, and learn more about the history and culture of Champa during 2rd to 15th centuries. In the afternoon we transfer by bus back to Hoi An and have some free time for relaxing on the beach or to explore Hoi An by night. Overnight in Hoi An.

Day 9: Hoi An (B)
Enjoy your day at leisure, in morning you can take a walk around the Ancient Town. Recently declared a World Heritage site, Hoi An is being beautifully restored and preserved. Known as Faifo to early western traders, it was one of South-East Asia’s major international ports during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. In afternoon you can ride or rest – whatever takes your fancy. For those who don’t need the rest, there’s also the option of biking down to nearby Cua Dai Beach or taking a stroll through paddy fields. Overnight in Hoi An

Day 10: Hoi An – Mekong delta (B, L, D)
Transfer to Danang air port and take a morning a flight to Saigon. Our local guide in Saigon will be ready to welcome you at the airport and transfer you to the Mekong Delta which is about 2 hrs. The Mekong delta is the final destination of the mighty Mekong River, which winds its way from Tibet, through Burma, Laos, Cambodia, and finally into Vietnam. Known as the ‘ricebowl of Vietnam’, the Mekong Delta is an incredibly fertile region, food production, prime industry producing approximately half of Vietnam’s total agricultural output. During your day you will cycle and discover the countryside areas of Cai LayCai Be and Binh Hoa Phuoc island in the Mekong delta, featuring a two hour private boat journey on the Tien River (Upper River). Your guide will discuss your timing for the day depending on your preferences. Decide together how far you would like to ride. Overnight on Binh Hoa Phuoc island

Day 11: Mekong delta (B, L)
We start our day by taking a boat ride to Vinh Long, then a short 25 minute transfer by bus to Tra On. Today the ride is known to offer the most spectacular rural landscape of the Mekong delta. We take an easy, flat ride (45km) through back roads, and shady canal paths, stopping along the way to try the fresh fruit and to have picnic lunch en-route. In the mid afternoon, we arrive at Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho

Day 12: Mekong delta – Saigon (B, L)
Take a morning boat ride to visit the Cai Rang river market for which this area has become quite well known. The Cai Rang river market was formed during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century and today it is bearing all the characteristics of the local’s life in the Mekong region. All the goods are transported to the market by boats and traders live on their boats like their mobile houses for generations. We continue the boat ride into the narrow shady waterways to see even more the real life of the Mekong people. After disembarked, we visit a rice mill and rice paper home work-shop, then cycling three hours through many charming villages of the Can Tho area. The photo opportunities are endless as you take the most scenic country laneways. You will see beautiful rice fields sparkling in the sun and locals working in their farm. Most people you interact with, especially the children are so friendly and happy to see you and will wave and say hello. Lunch is en-route and then it’s back into the private bus for the drive back to Saigon (late afternoon). Overnight in Saigon
